Crossing the Pennines!
What about a Heritage Trail along the Yorkshire Colne Valley, from Slawit to Marsden, we asked, back in summer 2014? Lots of history of travel and waymarking, from Blind Jack’s 1770s first Turnpike from Wakefield to Austerlands, a Guide Stoop, a Roman milestone, an estate Boundary Marker, three Brayshaw and Booth Milestones of the 1890s to canal milestones and to the Stanza Stone on Pule Hill.
The route incorporates two packhorse tracks in sore need of attention – and we raised the funding to restore authentically the path from Cop Hill to Netherwood Lane by winning £49k from the People’s Millions. Now we have set up the Heritage Trail: see www.CrossingthePennines.co.uk.
– next we need to do something about Scout Lane ! Have a look at http://packhorsetrack.wordpress.com/ and you’ll see what we mean…
